Susan Turner wakes up in a hospital with amnesia and, as her memory returns, she reflects on how she came to be lying there. Married to her teenage sweetheart, she imagines that her childhood dreams have become a reality, but when her philandering husband turns abusive, she fears for her and her children's safety and wants to escape.
An instant attraction to her neighbor, Tony, blossoms into love, and she calls a swift halt to their brief affair and makes plans to leave. With her mothers help, she breaks free from her marriage and a chance meeting reunites her with Tony.
Life settles down to a nice, easy pace and Susan's life changes for the better, until the fates decide a different course that will test her strength and willpower.
